QT Medical and Heart Institute of the Caribbean Improve ECG Access in Jamaica, Reducing Reporting Time by 95%
Access to timely cardiovascular diagnostics remains a significant challenge in many resource-limited communities. In rural Jamaica, ECG services have traditionally relied on mobile testing services, with patients sometimes waiting several weeks for their ECG reports.
To help address these challenges, QT Medical partnered with the Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) to deploy the PCA 500 cloud-based 12-lead ECG system across key clinical hubs in Jamaica. The initiative was designed to create a more accessible and efficient workflow for ECG acquisition, transmission, and physician interpretation.
From 30.5 Days to 1.6 Days
Results from the first 15 weeks of the pilot program were presented at the 2026 American College of Cardiology (ACC) Annual Scientific Session and published in JACC. During the pilot, 532 ECGs were completed and reported.
The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in ECG reporting efficiency:
- 95% reduction in reporting time: Average turnaround time decreased from 30.5 days to 1.57 days
- 56% reported within 24 hours: More than half of all ECGs were interpreted and reported within one day
- 38.5% abnormal ECGs identified: Enabling patients with abnormal findings to be identified for appropriate follow-up and intervention
Bringing 12-Lead ECG Closer to the Patient
By combining portable 12-lead ECG acquisition with cloud connectivity, the PCA 500 enables ECGs obtained at distributed clinical locations to be securely transmitted for remote physician interpretation.
This approach helps reduce dependence on conventional paper-based workflows and brings diagnostic capabilities closer to patients in communities where access to cardiovascular specialists and diagnostic resources may be limited.
The Jamaica pilot demonstrates how connected ECG technology can help bridge geographic and resource gaps while improving the speed and accessibility of cardiac diagnostics.
